{"id":211,"date":"2008-03-29T18:37:30","date_gmt":"2008-03-29T23:37:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/velcroblog.com\/?p=211"},"modified":"2008-03-29T18:39:00","modified_gmt":"2008-03-29T23:39:00","slug":"opening-day-eve","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/velcroblog.com\/?p=211","title":{"rendered":"Opening Day Eve"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Apparently we&#8217;re actually <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ajc.com\/sports\/content\/sports\/braves\/stories\/2008\/03\/29\/bravesroster_0329.html\">carrying three catchers<\/a> this season. I don&#8217;t know why, but I like it. Probably because it reminds me of a line in Major League II, but that&#8217;s true of most things I approve of in baseball.<\/p>\n<p>So, the Braves are likely settling into their hotel rooms in Washington D.C. right now, maybe stepping out for dinner, anticipating playing the first game of the season in a brand new ballpark tomorrow night. Exciting! Here are three AJC pictures from today&#8217;s game, the last of spring training, which I found to be potentially portentous:  <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.velcroblog.com\/images\/braves08\/umpirepointing.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>1. An umpire pointing toward the heavens with grim accusation.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.velcroblog.com\/images\/braves08\/fans032908.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>2. A few resilient fans huddled miserably in the outfield, two lucky sevens visible on the electronic scoreboard.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.velcroblog.com\/images\/braves08\/heap032908.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>3. Heap picking his nose.<\/p>\n<p>What does it all mean? Only the coming months will tell. I can&#8217;t shake the weird feeling I have about this season. It is of a mostly bad nature. Prove me wrong, Braves! <\/p>\n<p>Semi-related note: I saw Smoltz interviewing Frenchy on CSS today. For the love of God, Smoltzie, AJC reporters, everyone: quit referring to the McFrenchy wives at their &#8220;new roommate[s].&#8221; I cannot handle it.
